While birthing parents often encounter a wealth of resources before labor and birth, it’s sadly the case that many families lack the support they need as they recover and heal from their birth experience. Newly initiated into parenthood, many find themselves only with support for their physical healing, when in reality emotional healing is just as crucial.
Many parents, especially if they had an unusually long, exhausting, or difficult labor, or were not prepared for particular outcomes, find themselves feeling upset as they try to revisit their birth story. They may become preoccupied with it, wondering “what if…?” Or they may have difficulty discussing it with others, especially with their children. This feeling of being unfinished or “stuck” can go on for months or years.
To fully emerge from their labyrinth of birth, it’s often helpful to have someone experienced both in emotional trauma and in birth work to listen to their story and help them reframe it in a more spacious light. This is the purpose of the birth story process developed by Birthing From Within author and midwife Pam England.

“Cross the Great River —No Blame”
—I Ching
Through dialogue and discussion, storytelling, visualization, body awareness, and birth art processes—or whatever the moment calls for—we’ll work together to acknowledge the difficult emotions surrounding your birth experience while exploring how the story can be viewed with more freedom, compassion, and ultimately, self-love.
Sessions last about 60 – 90 minutes. They are supportive, healing, and gentle.
